The contour sanded distress is perhaps our most subtle and elegant hardwood floor. It has gentle ripples, imitating the tranquility of a lake's lightly rolling surface, but unless you are touching the floor or closely inspecting each board under lights, it looks as smooth as glass from a distance. Due to its subtleness, it is difficult to photograph, but the elegance it brings to a home is undeniable.
Another name for the contour sanded hardwood distress is "foot-worn," because it imitates the natural wear of flooring after years of foot traffic. Travel to the centuries-old buildings of Europe or the historic sites of early America, and you will see that the floors are in excellent condition.
Today, the contour sanding process uses special sanders to create the look and feel of centuries-old hardwood flooring. Because the work is all done by hand, each floorboard is slightly different from the next and this creates a truly personal hardwood floor for every room. However, while each board boasts of its individuality, it blends harmoniously with the others to create an elegant floor as a whole.
We often combine contour sanding with other distresses. Check out our gallery to see more creations and combinations!
