Wire-brushed hardwood flooring is a textured distress that is increasing in popularity due to its great looks and ability to hide dirt and scratches. This makes it ideal for those with children, dogs, and heavy foot traffic or furniture movement areas - such as an entryway or dining room.
Wire-brushed flooring is produced by scouring the plank with a stiff wire brush. The softer wood particles are scoured away, leaving a pattern of shallow grooves following the natural grain of the wood. The intensity and depth of the wire-brushing can be altered to customer preference, and the planks are finished off with either a colored oil wax finish that enhances the textured appearance or a water-based polyurethane that keeps the natural color of the wood and lightly fills the grooves.
Wire-brushed hardwood flooring can be made from a variety of trees but works best with species such as hickory or oak. Due to the innate hardness of the wood species typically used for this distress, these floors are particularly durable, and the wire-brushed surface helps disguise evidence of heavy traffic (dirt, scratches, etc.).
This particular hardwood flooring distress option will always come in a matte finish to enhance the rustic look and feel of the wood.
